L.J. Amaral graduated as with a B.S. in Nutritional Science from The University of Connecticut where they not only prepared her for her next level of education, but truly piqued her interest in Nutrition Research. From there, L. J. went to NYU for her Master’s of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics while working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. During this time, she worked on her thesis with Dr. Charlie Mueller: “Is there a correlation between low BMI, Iron Deficiency Anemia, and disordered eating in young pre-menopausal vegetarian women.”
After receiving her Master’s from NYU, she was offered and accepted a full-time position at the outpatient Cancer Center of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA. Here, she has a full clinic where she sees cancer patients going through treatment, right before treatment, or right after their treatment. She also is currently a Co-Investigator for a retrospective case series on the Ketogenic Diet and Brain Tumors as well as a Phase I Clinical trial for newly diagnosed Glioblastoma Multiforme Patients. L.J specializes in cancer nutrition, and specifically, Ketogenic Diets. L.J. does not recommend a ketogenic diet to everyone.
